Hello, my name is Cheney.

I am a 29 year old single mom, and I live on the eastern shorline of Connecticut with my six year old daughter, Elise. I am the managing editor and webmaster for The Scope Magazine, and I also currently dayjob it doing bookkeeping for a toy store. I love that word: bookkeeping.

However, as you may have noticed, I am a writer.

Every day, in every way, I strive to reach the ultimate goal of my life - make a living doing what I love. I am not sure yet where my path will take me, but I'm having a fun ride all the same.

You can get to know me more by reading Where I'm From, and my growing section of poetry. Reading my blog on a regular basis couldn't hurt either ;-)

I participate in a number of writing challenges, and all of my challenge responses can be found right here. I also was honored to have my very first Indie Ink Challenge piece featured on the site and was awarded the Editor's Choice. That piece was Hannah, and is one of my favorites.

Like most aspiring writers, I have several novels in the works. One of them is finished, a YA dystopian vampire HOT MESS of a novel, and I'm doing everything possible to avoid the task of editing it for submission. I'll get there one day.

I enjoy writing about the dark, mysterious, and horrific - favorite genres are horror and dystopia, and that is what I write best and read the most. My work features vampires, zombies, and ghosts with alarming frequency. In fact, I've been tinkering on a horror web serial, Vampire Zombies From Space! for over a year now, but it is epically long and not even close to meandering toward completion. If you like zombie stories though, you will probably like it and enjoy giving it a shot.

I (used to, for like two months!) blog here every day, and doing this is constantly changing my life for the better. I have been thrilled to meet and interact with other writers thanks to this blog, and appreciate all of the great feedback and support I have gotten because of it. Blogging has not only helped improved my writing, but it's helping me to become a more authentic and happy person, just by being able to be honestly me.

In addition to reading, writing, working, and parenting, I like to spend my time with a small group of close friends, having amazing dinners and thrilling games of Dungeons & Dragons (yup, I'm THAT kind of dork). I probably spend too much time in bars and coffeeshops and not enough time in libraries, but lately my good days have far outweighed my bad, and I'll take fun and happiness where I can get it.  You should, too.

You can email me at cheneymabel at gmail dot com if you'd like to get in touch - or leave a comment on a post - comments always make my day.
